What's new in ArpeOracle
Feature-oriented release highlights for ArpeOracle — the pure-native Oracle ADBC driver that speaks TNS (Oracle Net) + TTC directly over TCP and streams Apache Arrow end-to-end, with no OCI, no Instant Client, and no ODBC.
tnsnames.ora aliases — October 2026 (v0.3.11)
New option adbc.arpeoracle.tns_admin; tnsnames.ora aliases resolved.
Windows parallel connects — October 2026 (v0.3.10)
Parallel connections on Windows fixed.
Result schema without executing — September 2026 (v0.3.9)
ExecuteSchema returns a query's Arrow schema without running it.
Native encryption on by server request — September 2026 (v0.3.8)
The default NNE stance now lets the server decide, like Oracle's own clients.
Parquet-friendly INTERVAL export — September 2026 (v0.3.7)
INTERVAL YEAR TO MONTH and INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND columns now export straight
to Parquet (via FastBCP, pandas, and other Parquet writers), where they
previously failed because Arrow's interval(month_day_nano) has no Parquet
representation. By default they map to int64 (total months) and a utf8
ISO-8601 duration string, matching the schema FastBCP's regular Oracle driver
produces. This changes the default Arrow types for interval columns — set
interval_mapping=native to restore the previous interval(month_day_nano)
output. See Data types.
Application name in V$SESSION — September 2026 (v0.3.6)
app_name now sets V$SESSION.PROGRAM and MODULE.
RAC/SCAN redirects, continued — September 2026 (v0.3.5)
Fixes connecting through a SCAN listener whose redirect spans two packets.
RAC/SCAN redirects — September 2026 (v0.3.4)
Fixes connecting through a listener that answers with a redirect.
Renamed ArpeOracle — September 2026 (v0.3.3)
ArrowTTC is now ArpeOracle: options move to adbc.arpeoracle.* and arpeoracle.sdo.*.
Reliability & performance — September 2026 (v0.3.2)
A round of correctness and security-hardening fixes across the login, network, and decode paths, plus lower memory and fewer copies on the fetch path. No configuration or behaviour change.
Oracle Spatial support — September 2026 (v0.3.1)
MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY columns now read and write as GeoArrow, so spatial data
flows straight into tools like GeoPandas and DuckDB — points, lines, and
polygons, SRID included. See Data types.
RHEL 8 support & tuning — September 2026 (v0.3.0)
The Linux driver now runs on RHEL 8 / Rocky 8 and newer out of the box. A new option raises the network packet size for faster large fetches, and the default memory footprint is leaner.
Oracle 23ai & 26ai — September 2026 (v0.2.10)
Native support for Oracle 23ai and 26ai, including their new BOOLEAN, JSON,
and VECTOR column types — validated live.
Oracle 12c–21c validated — August 2026 (v0.2.9)
Oracle 12c, 18c, 19c, and 21c are all validated live on the same driver binary.
Hardened release binaries — August 2026 (v0.2.8)
The published Linux and Windows binaries are stripped, hardened shipping artifacts. Distribution hygiene only; no functional change.
Faster result decoding — August 2026 (v0.2.7)
Internal optimizations cut about 13% of decode CPU on wide scans, with identical Arrow output.
Login-path security fixes — August 2026 (v0.2.6)
Security fixes to the authentication path. No behaviour change on a healthy connection.
Prebuilt binaries — August 2026 (v0.2.5)
Every release now ships prebuilt linux-x64 and win-x64 binaries for
anonymous install, and adds GetStatisticNames.
Statement cache & wider encryption — August 2026 (v0.2.4)
A per-connection statement cache reuses server cursors across repeated SQL,
avoiding cursor-limit failures on long-lived connections
(adbc.arpeoracle.statement_cache_size, default 20). Native Network Encryption now
also works with Oracle 21c and 23ai.
Standalone driver, Windows support & licence gate — August 2026 (v0.2.3)
ArpeOracle became an independently installable ADBC driver:
- Load by name — install writes an ADBC driver manifest, so clients connect
with
driver="arpeoracle"and portableoracle://URIs. - Windows x64 — runs on Windows x64.
- Licence enforced — the licence check at connect is always on.
OAuth2 / Microsoft Entra ID login — August 2026 (v0.2.2)
Log in with a Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) token — no password, no OCI key. Verified live against Autonomous Database.
Oracle Cloud Autonomous Database — August 2026 (v0.2.0)
Connect to Oracle Autonomous Database over mutual TLS with the downloaded wallet, using a password or an OCI IAM database token. Verified end to end against a live instance.
Query cancellation over TLS — August 2026 (v0.2.1)
Cancelling a long-running query now works on encrypted (TCPS) connections, not just plaintext.
Native Network Encryption — July/August 2026 (v0.1.3, v0.1.7)
Encrypt the whole session with AES-256 without TCPS, using Oracle's native
network encryption. Set encryption=required (and/or data_integrity=required).
The native TNS + TTC engine — foundational (v0.1.0)
ArpeOracle speaks Oracle Net + Two-Task Common directly over TCP/TLS — no OCI, no Instant Client, no ODBC — and streams results straight into Apache Arrow. From day one:
- Fast streaming fetch — ~2.05× faster than python-oracledb's own Arrow path
on a native-encrypted
LINEITEMextract. - Flexible
NUMBERmapping — lossless text (default),float64, ordecimal128. - Full authentication — O5LOGON password, proxy, and change-password, with the password never in clear.
- TLS & wallets —
require/verify-ca/verify-full, including mutual TLS. - Full ADBC 1.1.0 surface — prepared statements, DML, transactions, bulk ingest, LOB streaming, cancellation, and metadata.
